Midstate Mold & Engineering

Precision Plastic Injection Molders

FAQ Answered

Q. What size of parts are you able to produce?

A. We are able to produce parts ranging in size from very small (pen point) to medium (toaster oven). However, we do not produce large pieces (like a window frame).

Q. Do you design parts?

A. We won’t actually design the end product. However, we will review and assist you from a vendor perspective. Our experience and understanding of plastic injection molding may save you tremendous time and cost in developing a product easily producible.

Q. Do you do thermoset work?

A. No, we only do thermoplastic. The advantage of thermoplastic is that it can be melted again into plastic. Thermoset is unchangeable once it has set.

Q. What types of materials do you use?

A. We use a range of plastics from cost-effective PS to high-grade engineering plastics like PEEK and much more in between.

Q. What kind of software do you use for review and quoting?

A. We exclusively use SOLIDWORKS CAD software to review part designs for accurate project quoting and to see potential problem areas that need to be redesigned before molds are made.

Q. What material should be used for a project?

A. This is up to you. We can help review and give you suggestions, but ultimately you will have to decide what plastic is right for your part, the end user, and your company.

Q. How long does it take to build a mold?

A. This varies greatly depending on quantity and complexity of the part. It could be anywhere from 3 – 4 weeks or 18 – 20 weeks.

Q. Who owns the mold?

A. The mold is owned by you. However, it is stored on the Midstate premises for safekeeping and ease of access as new orders are required.

Q. How do you take care of the mold?

A. We are careful to clean the mold and perform any required maintenance on the mold after each time we use it. Then it is safely stored away until the next shipment is needed.

Q. What if something happens to the mold?

A. Because of our mold maintenance shop, we are able to maintain, adjust, and repair the mold as needed.
